Parks and Recreation

Winter, spring, summer or fall, the parks in Logan offer a relaxing reprieve from the hectic demands of everyday living. With over forty parks in the city, there is always somewhere to visit and something to do.

WINTER

Merlin Olsen Park turns into a winter wonderland as temperatures plummet and the city opens fire hydrants to flood the park and make our very own outdoor ice skating rink. For just the price of skate rentals, anyone can enjoy an evening of old fashioned ice skating in the park under the stars. A couple of years ago, our family was delighted to lace up our skates and prove our skills. After a few leisurely turns around the rink to get our bearings, we were off. Some were racing, others were attempting backward skating, and still others were working on their ice skating tricks. It was a lovely evening and the ice was great!

SPRING

With the advent of spring as the snow melts and the buds begin to burst, new choices emerge at the parks. There are numerous parks with amazing playground equipment. Notably, the Ryan’s Place Park and the Whittier Center Park both have extensive play areas that children love to explore and enjoy. Make sure you join in the fun too!

If you are into walking, Logan has you covered with many offerings. For example, the Logan River Walk offers an exceptional walk along the Logan River and through the Logan City Golf Course. Enjoy a special experience of our Universe as you walk from the Sun to Pluto, with all the planets between, based on actual distance scaled down for a lovely afternoon walk. Your four-legged friend are welcome too!

SUMMER

As the summer heats up, residents head to the parks to cool down in the many park water venues. If you are up for a really exciting wet time, the Logan Aquatic Center is your answer. With huge slides, a high dive, deep pools, wading pools, and water fun sprinkled all around, this park is a refuge during the dog days of summer. Affordable prices for fun and food make this park the perfect mix.

For those of you looking for an afternoon of free fun, the Merlin Olsen Park’s lazy river is always a pleasure. Whether you are wading through the waters after your boat made of leaves and sticks or clad in a swimsuit floating in a tube, this place provides a cool respite for a sweltering day.

FALL

Cooling temperatures and the start of school are no deterrent to park usage. Perhaps a game of football after a big meal? Several parks, for example Willow Park, provide venues for soccer, football, volleyball, baseball, and basketball among other sports. If you have the equipment, it can be played.

Take a look at the Logan City Parks and Recreation website for comprehensive information on the city’s impressive parks system. Guaranteed that a little time outside goes a long way to making a better day!
